New Campaigns

Setting Campaign Duration

One-Time Immediate |
When set live, one-time immediate campaigns will be sent immediately to any contacts in the campaign. These campaigns run one time only and additional contacts cannot be added, nor can the campaign be edited, after the campaign is live. The campaign will automatically be set to a Completed state 24 hours after launch.
|
One-Time Scheduled |
These campaigns are the same as one-time immediate, except that you will schedule the campaign to run at a time and date in the future. The most common use case for a one-time scheduled campaign is attaching an auto-refreshing segment and scheduling the campaign to be sent to that segment in the future so that you can plan ahead.
|
Duration | When set live, duration campaigns are sent continually to any contacts newly added to them throughout the span of time between the start date and end date that you set. The start date can be immediate or a date in the future. Duration campaigns will automatically be set to a Completed state at the end time and date. |
Evergreen |
These campaigns are the same as duration, except that you will not pre-set an end date. Evergreen campaigns are typically what is used for ongoing conversational flows. Evergreen campaigns can be manually Paused or Stopped when you do not want them to be active anymore. |
Attaching Segments
You can automatically attach a static or auto-refreshing segment to your campaign so that the contacts in that segment receive the campaign when it is live. To select a segment:
-
Click into the Search area or click the dropdown arrow to see all of the segments in your team
-
Optionally, search for a keyword that is in the desired segment name
-
Check the checkbox next to all segments you would like to attach to the campaign
-
Click the blue Add button to attach them
Attached segments will appear in a list below the selection widget once they are added. If you do not see this additional list of segments, you haven't added them to the campaign. In the example below, only the Subscribers segment has been attached to the campaign, the other 3 listed have not been added:
If you would like to remove an attached segment, click the red trash can icon next to it.
Make sure to hit the blue Create Campaign button in the bottom right corner once you have finished configuring your campaign!
🚫 Note that, in general, you should not use the toggles for adding or removing tagged contacts from the campaign and removing contacts from campaigns on responses.
Creating Campaign Messages
A campaign message is the actual text message you are sending, while the Campaign itself is a container for one or more messages. After creating a campaign you should see the Edit Campaign Message page, where you will name your message (usually the same as the campaign) and enter the content you want to send. If you were not automatically taken to the page shown below the next paragraph, click the green + New Message button on the Campaign Messages page:Give the message a name (this is usually the same name as the campaign, unless you are creating a campaign with multiple messages), then write your message in the Body box on the right. The blue arrow on the image below points to where you can add dynamic message variables. To add a message variable, click on the blue i icon and a list of available variables will appear.
The Message Variables modal shows 4 groups you can choose from: Team variables, Contact variables, Contact Collections variables, and Campaign variables. Most commonly used are Team Variables and Contact variables. Team variables are data specific to your Voxie team, including the name or any Team Custom Attributes you have set up. Contact variables are specific to each contact receiving the campaign message and will populate individually. Refer to this article to learn more about message variables and how to use them.
On the campaign message page, you also have the option to upload a static photo or gif with your text message! For image guidelines and specifications, please click here.
Once you have written the message body of your text and added in any additional content such as Message Variables or an image, you can see what the text will look like when it is sent to a specific contact to verify that your content is populating as you expect. To do so, under the Body and File Upload boxes, click the See It Live button.
-
Click the See It Live button indicated in the screenshot above. A new popup modal will appear.
-
In the first box, begin typing a contact name or phone number; contacts matching your typing will begin to appear. Select the contact you want to preview the message for.
-
Once you select the desired contact, the text will appear in the second box, populating any included Message Variable(s) with their relevant information. If the Message Variable(s) are not included in the message correctly or are blank for that contact, they will not appear, and you should edit the message to only include information dynamically that each contact receiving the message will have available to them.

- To close the See It Live modal, click Done.
- If you do not like how the text looks, you can edit the message at this time.
- You can click the See it Live button and try different contacts as many times as you would like until you are satisfied with text.
- Once you are happy with the text and any included Message Variable(s), click Create Message in the bottom right-hand corner.
Once you have written the message body of your text, you will be able to see how many segments it is above the Body box. You can use this segment count to estimate the cost of your campaign message. The total number of segments in the message, multiplied by the contacts you send it to, multiplied by your per-segment will be the cost of this message.
Remember to turn your campaign message live after writing it! If your campaign is on, but your message is off, the message won’t send. Note that your campaign will not begin to send until you launch it following the instructions below.
Advanced Settings for Duration and Evergreen Campaigns
You can also set a delay on your messages, as well as put time constraints on them, so your messages go out exactly when you want them to. The steps for using these more advanced settings can be found in this article called Timing Configuration and Delays within Campaign Messages.
Testing, Editing, and Launching Campaigns
Launching in Live Mode
To find your most recent campaign click Messaging in the navigation bar at the top of the screen and select Campaigns again if you are no longer on the Campaigns page. Once you are on the Campaigns page, your team's campaigns will appear by default from oldest to newest.
To find the campaign you just created, you can:
- Search for it by name (circled on the right in the image below)
- Filter your campaigns using a criterion you know applies to the campaign you just created (circled in the middle in the image below)
- Change the sorting of your campaigns to show the newest at the top (circled on the left in the image below)
Your new campaign will be, by default, in a draft state. To begin sending messages, you must Launch the campaign, as written in the grey text below the name of your new campaign.
If you attached a segment to your campaign and would like to set it live right away, click the Actions button to the right of your listed campaign, click Launch, and select LIVE MODE from the pop-up:
After you launch a campaign in LIVE MODE, the Status will update to one of 2 new options:
-
If a campaign is scheduled for a future start date it will launch into a Scheduled state. The campaign will begin sending messages when it reaches the scheduled time and date.
-
If a campaign is scheduled to go live immediately, it will launch into a Live state right away.
Note that campaign settings and messages in One-Time campaigns cannot be edited after a campaign goes live. Duration and Evergreen campaigns can have their message(s) edited, but not campaign settings such as start date or campaign name. If, on the other hand, you'd like to test and potentially edit your message(s) before going Live, you can do so in TEST MODE!
Launching in Test Mode
Test mode allows you to send a campaign that you have built to yourself, go back to draft mode and edit it, and test again repeatedly before you set the campaign live (into its live or scheduled state).
To launch in TEST MODE, click the Actions button to the right of your listed campaign, click Launch, and select TEST MODE from the pop-up:
Next, you must select a segment to send the campaign to as a test. Note that the contacts in this segment will receive your campaign immediately. Therefore, you should make a Test Contacts segment. This segment may include only yourself, or it may include your colleagues whom you also want to receive test messages to approve copy or images. See here for instructions on creating segments if you need to create a new segment of test contacts.
Campaigns live in a Testing state appear differently on the Campaigns page:
Once you have received your message as a test, click the Actions button again and select Back to draft. Once your campaign is back in a Draft state, you can make any necessary edits to the campaign settings or message(s). After your have finished making changes, click Launch again and either continue testing or set the campaign to Scheduled/Live status by selecting LIVE MODE.
Pausing and Stopping Campaigns
Live Evergreen and Duration campaigns can be paused if you do not want them to run for a temporary span of time, but will want to launch them again in the future. Alternatively, they can be stopped permanently, which is an irreversible action. A Duration or Evergreen campaign that has been stopped cannot be re-launched.
Duration campaigns can be paused or stopped manually any time before their scheduled end dates, while all Evergreen campaigns must be stopped manually as they are not launched with scheduled end dates.
All one-time campaigns will automatically stop and go into a Completed state 24 hours after they were first set Live.
Live campaigns have Pause and Stop buttons in their Actions menus:
